May 21, 2025 - The 4x100m relay team of Avery Johnson, Lily Miller, Sierra Newell, and Emerson Chambers set a new school record time of 49.72 seconds, helping the girls track and field team to a sectional championship. The Bull Dogs’ 205 team points easily defeated runner up Jennings County (74.5) and third place Lawrenceburg (73). Columbus East (72) was fourth in the thirteen team event. The Bull Dogs crowned sectional champions in ten events, including a number of 1-2 finishes. Emma Haston won the high jump (5-02), with Annelou Briand taking fourth. Newell’s 4x100m relay victory was just one of three sectional titles for the senior as she won the pole vault (9-06) and the long jump (16-11.5), with Johnson second in the long jump. Emma Beaver was fourth in the discus, and Sydni Schiefer and Gabby Revell took second and fourth in the shot put. In the running events, in addition to the 4x100m relay title, the foursome of Carys Glyn-Jones, Kyleigh Wolf, Macy Eaton, and Hazel Sasse won the 4x800m relay (9:51.55). Chambers was second and Miller third in the 100m hurdles, and Chambers followed it up with a second place finish in the 100m dash. The Bull Dogs took 1-2 in the 1600m, with Tristan Works (5:27.49) edging teammate Emma Lowther for the sectional title. Another 1-2 finish for the Bull Dogs occurred in the 400m dash, with Reece Peeples winning (1:02.77) and Sasse finishing runner up. Natalie Rohm and Lexi Denny took second and fourth in the 300m hurdles before Glyn-Jones (2:17.05) and Eaton swept first and second in the 800m. Johnson was fourth in the 200m, with Denny finishing seventh. The final event sweep for North came in the 3200m, with Wolf (11:47.34) winning, and Adira Sluder finishing over 40 seconds ahead of the third placed finisher, earning second place. North’s 4x400m relay team (Sasse, Denny, Peeples, and Glyn-Jones) finished the night with a dominating victory (4:08.80), finishing nearly twelve seconds ahead of second place. Top three performances in each event, along with “call back” qualifiers, will compete in next week’s Bloomington North Regional meet.
