Volleyball earns program’s first sectional victory

May 15, 2025 - In a year of “firsts”, Columbus North boys volleyball earned the first sectional victory in program history with a 3-1 decision over Greenwood Christian at Franklin Community on Wednesday evening. The Bull Dogs, in their first season as a sanctioned IHSAA sport, will advance to play Shelbyville in the sectional semifinals on Saturday morning at Franklin Community. The Golden Bears drew a first round bye in the sectional tournament. The Bull Dogs have won both matches against Shelbyville earlier in the season. Yuta Kondo had 18 kills and three service aces to lead the Bull Dogs. Kota Kondo tallied 30 assists for the match, Noah Dornfeld had five blocks, and Hank Lin and Leo Iorio recorded 18 digs each in the victory. After North won a competitive first set 27-25, Greenwood Christian evened the match with a 25-16 decision in set two. The Dogs closed the match winning the third and fourth sets 25-21 and 25-23, respectively. Greenwood and Franklin Community match up in tonight’s early quarterfinal match, with Columbus East and Whiteland to meet in the later match. The two winners will face off Saturday afternoon (May 17) to face the Shelbyville/Columbus North winner in the sectional championship match Saturday night at 7:00 pm.
