April 7, 2024 - Decatur Central brought their 3-0 record to Southside Elementary on Friday evening, but the Dogs wasted no time jumping all over the Hawks and rolling to a 13-3 five-inning victory, improving to 2-0 for the young season. Ryan Rayburn pitched the first three innings for North, all of them scoreless, giving up two hits and striking out six. Lane Schrader pitched the fourth inning with one walk and one strikeout. Zach McLean gave up three runs in the top of the fifth, but also struck out three batters. The Dogs put five runs on the board in the first inning, and followed it up with four in the second and three in the third to build a very quick 12-0 lead. A run in the bottom of the fifth inning extended the lead to 13-3, ending the game early. Connor Hensley, Joey Fry, Jayce Emmitt, and Rayburn all had two hits for Columbus North as they tallied 14 hits compared to just five for the Hawks. Fry had three RBI in the victory. The JV Bull Dogs improved to 1-1 with a 14-4 victory over the Hawks in the other game. The Bull Dogs will host Batesville (varsity) and Hauser (JV) on Tuesday, beginning at 6:00 for the varsity and 5:00 for JV.
