June 7, 2026 - One week after setting a new school record in the 800m at the Bloomington North Regional meet, senior Jace Works smashed it at the State meet at North Central High School on Saturday, finishing in 1:50.70, the fifth fastest time in Indiana this season (and the 47th fastest time in the nation this spring). Works finished second in the event, earning the Bull Dogs’ only podium finish at the State finals. The Bull Dogs scored eight points at the meet, which was won by Bloomington North with 39 points. Avon finished second with 36 points. In addition to Works’ runner up finish, the Bull Dogs competed in four more events in the weather-delayed meet. Justin Reckers had a new personal best time of 4:18.16 in the 1600m to finish 15th and Denton Sluder was 17th in the 3200m in 9:25.21. The Dogs also entered two relays in the State finals, including the 4x400m relay (Max Wilson, Davonta Degraffenreid, Works, and Aiden Hayes) which finished 25th (3:25.51), and the 4x800m relay (Logan Vanzant, Noah Weidman, Graham Pumphrey, and Works) which finished 28th in 8:17.23. Congratulations to head coach Rick Sluder and the boys track and field team for another fantastic season on the track.
