May 29, 2026 - Columbus North softball scored a run in the top of the seventh inning Thursday night in the championship game of the Whiteland Sectional to take a 5-4 lead over the Grizzly Cubs of Franklin Community (18-11). However, Franklin Community scored two in the home half of the inning to capture the sectional title by a 6-5 score. The Bull Dogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead after half an inning and led 3-1 before the Grizzly Cubs took a 4-3 lead with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third. The Dogs were not fazed, however, and tied the score 4-4 in the top of the fourth inning. The tie stayed on the scoreboard until the seventh inning fireworks. Morgan Jarvis, Lyla Deweese, and Payton Morris all had two hits and scored runs at the top of the lineup for the Bull Dogs. Deweese was credited with two RBI. Bailee Scruggs went the distance for the Bull Dogs in the pitcher’s circle, allowing six runs on nine hits. Scruggs walked just one and struck out two in the loss. The Dogs finished the season 10-15, and 3-2 in Conference Indiana. The Dogs will say goodbye to six graduating seniors, including Jarvis, Ali Wooten, Scruggs, Morris, Felicity Hess, and Avery Shehan.
