May 10, 2026 - Jennings County hosted a three-team round-robin softball tournament on Saturday (May 9) featuring the Panthers (16-5) and New Palestine (14-5), along with the Bull Dogs. Jennings County slipped by the Dogs 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Dogs got one hit each from Morgan Jarvis, Lyla Deweese, Bailee Scruggs, Vada Riegle, and Lola Thompson, and a solid pitching performance by Scruggs (6-⅓ IP, 3R, 8H, 6K, 3BB), but the Panthers edged North in walkoff fashion. The second game didn’t go as well for the Dogs, as they fell behind New Pal 9-1 after just two innings en route to a 13-3 loss. Jarvis had three hits, including a double, but the Dragons scored early and often to cruise to the six-inning victory. Scruggs, Layney Henderson, and Payton Morris, who got the start in game two, combined to allow 13 runs on 14 hits, while walking five and striking out three. The Dogs (8-11) will have another busy week, starting with a non-conference matchup with Brownstown Central on Monday evening at the Southside diamonds, beginning at 5:30 pm.
