April 7, 2026 - Columbus North and Southport softball played an old-fashioned Conference Indiana slugfest on Monday evening, with the Dogs coming out on top 10-9 in eight innings. Southport jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but North rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. The Dogs then built an 8-4 lead after six innings and looked to be cruising to victory. However, the Cardinals scored five runs in the top half of the seventh to take a 9-8 lead. North scored one in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, tied 9-9. Southport had runners at second and third with one out in the eighth inning, but the Dogs’ defense held. An infield RBI by Ali Wooten in the bottom half of the eighth gave the Dogs the 10-9 victory. North pounded out twelve hits, including two each by Lyla Deweese, Payton Morris, Lola Thompson, and Alexi Sayles. Bailee Scruggs started in the pitcher’s circle for the Bull Dogs, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits, while walking three and striking out two in 6-⅔ innings. Morris tossed the final 1-⅓ innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four. The Dogs will host Roncalli this evening at Southside for a varsity-JV doubleheader. First pitch of the varsity game is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
