North bounces back with victory at Jennings County

April 1, 2026 - Macario Mendez was 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored as Columbus North baseball beat Jennings County 17-7 on Tuesday night in North Vernon. Diaju Iwaya had three hits and Jack Whaley scored three runs for the Bull Dogs, who bounced back from a 9-8 loss to Hamilton Southeastern on Monday night to open their season. The Dogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Panthers after an inning and a half, but the Panthers answered with seven runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game 7-7. The rest of the game was all Bull Dogs, as they scored five runs in the top of the fourth, one in the sixth, and four more in the seventh to improve to 1-1 for the season. Bryson Satterfield got the start for North and tossed 1-⅔ innings, giving up seven runs on four hits, while walking three and striking out one. Jesse Clark came on in relief and threw 1-⅓ innings, allowing no runs and no hits. Daiju Iwaya threw three innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two. Brock Kintner pitched the seventh inning, striking out one and allowing no hits or runs. The Bull Dogs will host a Saturday doubleheader with Mt. Vernon, with the first game beginning at 10:00 am, to start a stretch of five games in five games.
