Dogs cross country earn eighth place finish at Nike Nationals

December 7, 2025 - Twenty-two of the country’s finest cross country teams gathered in Portland, Oregon this weekend for the Nike Cross Nationals and the Columbus North Bull Dogs finished eighth. The Dogs earned their berth at Nationals by winning the Regional meet last month, following a State championship to conclude the IHSAA season. Jace Works paced the North squad with a 60th-place individual finish in 16:01.9. Works was 25th among runners from teams competing for the National title Denton Sluder was 91st (50th), Justin Reckers 97th (55th), Sam Steinmetz 106th (64th), Joseph Day 118th (75th), Logan Vanzant 155th (109th), and Graham Pumphrey 167th (121st) in the 200-man race. The eighth place finish at Nationals caps a historic season for Columbus North cross country. The team won the Conference Indiana title on September 20, the Brown County Sectional on October 18, the Evansville Regional on October 25, and the State Championship on November 1 before competing as a club team to win the Nike Regional and finishing eighth at the Nike Nationals.
