Junior Charlie Allen and senior Rachel Brougher were cited as most valuable athletes on Monday (Nov. 14) for the 2016 Columbus North cross country teams at the annual season-ending team gathering.
Allen, who placed 63rd in the IHSAA state meet, was recognized as most valuable on the boys’ team. Brougher, who was 36th in the state, was MVP for the girls’ team.
The boys finished 13th as a team at state. The girls were 12th as a team at state.
Other special honors at the banquet went to sophomore John Sluys and freshman Olivia Morlok, who received the respective boys’ and girls’ Bull Dog Awards.
Allen, senior Elijah Brooks and senior Alec Embry were recognized as boys’ all-Conference Indiana runners. Brougher and Morlok earned girls’ all-CI laurels.
Embry, senior Jennifer Gutman, junior Evan Porter, junior Ana Singhal and senior Justin Spoon were chosen first-team Academic All-State by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches. Brougher was selected honorable mention Academic All-State.
Brooks, Embry and senior Eli Fischer were cited as team captains for the boys. Singhal, senior Sydney Perry and junior Arig Tong were recognized as team captains for the girls.
Boys earning varsity letters were seniors Elijah Brooks, Jose Cordova, Alec Embry, Eli Fischer, Cohen Graham, Josh Hatton, Alex Kelley, Richard Liu, Andrew Scott, Caleb Sensanbaugher and Justin Spoon; juniors Charlie Allen, Drew Falkner, Evan Porter, Nick Schumacher, Peyton Shelton, Spencer Sherlock, Abel Spalding and Drew Thompson; sophomores Sam Horak, Parker Lee, Sam Russell, John Sluys and Drew Smith.
Girls presented varsity letters were seniors Bekah Albers, Rachel Brougher, Jennifer Gutman and Sydney Perry; juniors Madelyn Sanders, Ana Singhal and Arig Tong; sophomores Sydney Geckler and Emma Smith; and freshmen Lily Dozier, Kennedy Kerber and Olivia Morlok.
Other boys who were recognized were senior Troy Gayman; juniors Kenny Arguetta, Thomas Boatwright, Joel Carroll, Harrison Ho, Cullen Kane, Joshua Knox, Sam Lamba, Nick Neeley, Nathan Nugent and Neal Staley; sophomores Kaden Brooks, Jarrett Embry, Aiden Graham, Eric Huang, Rishi Poludasu, Paxton Rush and John Wills; and freshmen Ethan Eavey, Zane Gruwell, Lucas Hayes, Ethan Hester, Trevor Lirette, Carson Littrell, Ben Malone, Ryan Sadtler, Ryan Spoon, Pranav Venkatraman nd Ryan Worton.
