Columbus North wins Conference Indiana girls' all-sports crown for 2016-17; Bull Dog boys are second in CI all-sports race

    Bloomington South has won the Conference Indiana all-sports standings in boys sports for 2016-17. Columbus North has claimed the 2016-17 CI all-sports title in girls sports.

    Bloomington South totaled 78 points to capture the boys' all-sports trophy for the 13th time in the 20 seasons of league action and the second year in a row. The Panthers were conference champions in football, soccer, basketball, swimming, track and golf en route to the crown. Bloomington South also placed third in cross country and wrestling in the eight-team league.
    Columbus North was runner-up in the boys' standings with 63.5 points. The Bull Dogs did not win any boys' league titles, but they were runners-up in cross country, football, soccer, tennis, swimming and golf. They also were third in track and tied for third in basketball.
    Other boys' sport champions were Bloomington North in tennis, Perry Meridian in wrestling and Terre Haute South in cross country and baseball.
    Terre Haute South was third in the boys' standings with 57 points. The Braves were followed by Bloomington North with 52.5, Perry Meridian with 41.5, Franklin Central with 38.5, Terre Haute North with 31.5 and Southport with 27.5.
    Columbus North captured the girls' all-sports crown with 64 points.
The Bull Dogs grabbed at least a share of the girls' all-sports crown for the 12th year in a row and the 14th time in 20 seasons.
    CN won outright girls' league titles in golf and gymnastics while sharing the basketball title with Southport and Perry Meridian. The Bull Dogs also placed second in cross country, soccer and tennis, and they were third in swimming.
    Franklin Central was second in the girls' standings with 61.5 points. The Flashes won titles in volleyball and track while placing second in swimming and softball. They also were third in gymnastics.

    Other conference champions in girls' sports were Bloomington North in cross country, Bloomington South in swimming, Terre Haute South in tennis and Terre Haute North in soccer and softball.
    Bloomington South was third in the girls' all-sports standings with 59.5 points. Terre Haute North was fourth with 47.5 followed by Bloomington North with 47, Terre Haute South with 40.5, Perry Meridian with 34 and Southport with 26.
    A compilation of year-by-year CI all-sports standings are below (note, the league had 10 members including Decatur Central and Martinsville from 1997-98 through 2005-06; it had eight full members from 2006-07 through 2012-13; Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South were partial members in 2013-14 and became full members in 2014-15).
