Sophomore Betsy King and the Columbus North 400-yard freestyle relay have received “call backs” to be part of the IHSAA girls swimming State Finals on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 9-10) at the Natatorium at IUPUI.
King received a call back in the 100 free style, where she posted a time of 52.37 in placing second in the Columbus North Sectional last Saturday (Feb. 3).
The quartet of King, sophomore Erica Samuel, senior Kaitlyn Niebrugge and sophomore Olivia Morlok received a call back in the 400 free relay. They also were second in the sectional in 3:40.22.
The CN 200 free relay unit of King, Samuel, freshman Riddhi Garg and Morlok previously earned a trip to state by winning their event in 1:39.95. Morlok also earned a place at state in the 500 free; she was second in the sectional, but her time of 5:01.81 was better than the state standard and guaranteed her a place in the meet.
King is seeded 20th in the 100 free at 52.37. Morlok is seeded 10th in the 500 free at 5:01.81. The 200 free relay is seeded 22nd at 1:39.95. The 400 free relay is seeded 23rd at 3:40.22.
The top 16 performers in each event Friday return for the finals on Saturday. The top eight compete in the “A” final; the next eight compete in the “B” final.
