Columbus North draws New Albany in first round of boys soccer sectional at Seymour

                The Columbus North boys’ soccer team will face New Albany in the first round of Class 3A Sectional 15 at Seymour.

                Pairings were announced Sunday (Sept. 24) by the IHSAA, and the Bull Dogs will face New Albany’s Bulldogs at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3.

                Columbus East and Floyd Central will open the seven-team affair with a single game on Monday, Oct. 2. Columbus North and New Albany will play the first game of Oct. 3, followed by Seymour against Jeffersonville.

                Jennings County will play the Columbus East-Floyd Central winner in the first semifinal on at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, and the Tuesday winners will square off in the second semifinal at about 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4. The semifinal survivors will meet for the sectional title at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7.

                The sectional champion will advance to the Seymour Regional, where it will play in the second semifinal at noon Saturday, Oct. 14 against the winner of the Terre Haute South Sectional. The regional opener at 10 a.m. features winners from the Evansville and Franklin sectionals. The regional final will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

                The regional winner advances to the Southern Semi-State on Oct. 21 at either Evansville or Lawrenceburg.

                The semi-state champion will advance to the IHSAA State Finals on either Oct. 27 at Butler University or Oct. 28 at IUPUI.

                Columbus North carries a 10-4-1 record into the final week of the regular season. The Bull Dogs will host Seymour on Tuesday (Sept. 26) and visit Carmel on Friday (Sept. 29) prior to starting sectional play.

                Junior Alex McGill leads the CN attack with 40 points on 16 goals and eight assists. Senior Finn Anderson has contributed 17points on six goals and five assists, while senior Jack Robertson has provided 10 points on three goals and four assists. Sophomore Graham Keele has seven points on two goals and three assists, and sophomore Andrew Goble has five points on one goal and three assists.

                Junior goalkeeper Noah Kestler has a 1.43 goals against average with three shutouts in 1,171 minutes in the nets.

                Sectional admission is $6 per session or $10 for an all-session pass. Regional admission is $7 per session or $10 for a two-session pass. Semi-state admission is $10 per person. Finals admission is $10 per person per session.

                Columbus North has won 14 sectionals since the IHSAA began holding a state soccer tournament in 1994. This is the first season for a three-class tournament.
