INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Alex McGill scored a pair of goals Friday (Sept. 8), lifting the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory over McCutcheon in the first round of the Great Midwest Classic at North Central.
The Bull Dogs improved to 5-3 with the decision, while the Mavericks dropped to 4-2.
Senior Javier Nunez gave McCutcheon a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal in the fourth minute.
McGill tied the game in the 34th minute by converting a feed from sophomore Andrew Goble.
The same duo combined for the game winner, McGill finding the net in the 56th minute with Goble again collecting the assist.
Junior Noah Kestler played all 80 minutes in goal, making three saves for the Bull Dogs.
Columbus North plays two games in the event on Saturday (Sept. 9). It faces Oak Park, Ill., at 10:30 a.m. The Bull Dogs close the event against Downers Grove South, Ill., at 5 p.m.
