COLUMBUS, Ind. – Sophomore Andrew Goble scored in the 54th minute and junior Alex McGill provided three assists Saturday (Aug. 26) to propel the Columbus North boys soccer team to a 4-2 victory over rival Columbus East at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
Senior Finn Anderson, sophomore Graham Keele and junior Ernesto Perez also scored for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 2-1 for the season. Junior Noah Kestler played all 80 minutes in goal, making seven saves.
Anderson scored in the game’s eighth minute off a feed from McGill, but the Olympian’s Dustin Rodgers countered with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute. Keele gave CN the lead again with an unassisted goal in the 39th minute before Keele’s goal off a McGill assist proved to be the decisive tally. Perez found the net in the 65th minute, McGill again creating the chance, before East’s Jorge Nieto scored in the 79th minute.
In the JV game, sophomore Evan Logan first-half goal stood up as Columbus North prevailed 1-0. Freshman Colvin Iorio made four saves while earning the shutout in goal for the Bull Dogs (2-1).
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Aug. 29) when it visits Center Grove. The JV game is set for 5:30 p.m., and the varsity follows at about 7 p.m.
