Bloomington North edges Columbus North 1-0 in boys soccer

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Nathan Spriggs scored in the 54th minute Thursday evening (Aug. 17) to lift the Bloomington North boys soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Columbus North at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.

Spriggs goal came off a feed from classmate Brandon Hunt, while Cougars goalkeepers Samuel Martin and Austin Himebaugh shared the shutout.

Martin played the game’s first 20 minutes, then exited after a collision with CN senior Finn Anderson in the goal area. Himebaugh came on for the final 60 minutes, making several key saves down the stretch.

Junior Noah Kestler recorded four saves in goal for the Bull Dogs (0-1 overall, 0-1 Conference Indiana).

At the JV level, freshman Johan Selvaggi scored with 4:56 remaining to give Columbus North a 2-1 decision. Junior Cameron Swan gave CN an early lead before Cougars junior Braden Urbanski tied the game with 10:39 to go in the first half. The score stayed that way until Selvaggi’s unassisted tally that followed a rebound of his own hard shot.

Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Aug. 22) when it hosts Cathedral at the Wigh Complex. The JV game starts at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:30 p.m.
