BATESVILLE, Ind. – Junior Georgia Gratz recorded a goal and an assist Tuesday evening (Sept. 26), helping the Batesville girls soccer team to a 4-3 victory over Columbus North.
Gratz and sophomore Liz Heidlage gave the host Bulldogs a 2-0 edge in the first 11 minutes, and the visiting Bull Dogs never caught up.
Bateville improved to 13-2-0, while Columbus North dropped to 8-3-2.
Gratz scored in the fifth minute off a feed from senior Baylee Rohlfing, and Heidlage followed with a goal in the 11th minute with senior Bre Moman assisting.
CN sophomore made it 2-1 with a goal on a free kick in the 20th minute, but Batesville junior Caitlynn Werner pushed the margin back to two when she converted an opportunity created by junior Hailey Mohr in the 31st minute.
Columbus North junior Tanner Johnson converted a penalty kick in the 39th minute for a 3-2 count at intermission, but senior Taylor Rowlett made it 4-2 in the 62nd minute off a feed from Gratz.
Johnson added her second goal of the night in the 74th minute, but the Bull Dogs were unable to get the equalizer.
Senior Liz Tynan made seven saves in goal for Columbus North. Senior Gabi Garcia had three saves for Batesville.
In the JV game, Batesville claimed a 1-0 victory over the Bull Dogs. Sophomore Kaylyn Bates played the full game in goal for CN (3-8-1).
Columbus North returns to action Saturday (Sept. 30) when it visits Franklin for its regular-season finale. The JV game begins at 10 a.m., and the varsity follows about 11:30 a.m. The Bull Dogs open play in the Columbus East Sectional at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 3) against Greenwood at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.
