Columbus North girls soccer to face Greenwood in sectional first round on Tuesday, Oct. 3

                The Columbus North girls’ soccer team will face Greenwood in the first round of Class 3A Sectional 13 hosted by Columbus East at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.

                Pairings were announced Sunday (Sept. 24) by the IHSAA, and the Bull Dogs will face the Woodmen at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3.

                Whiteland and Center Grove will open the six-team event at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3.

                The Tuesday winners will play in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. Franklin will meet Columbus East in the second semifinal at about 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5.

                The semifinal survivors will meet for the sectional title at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7.

                The sectional champion will advance to the Bloomington South Regional, where it will play in the first semifinal against the winner of the Floyd Central Sectional on Saturday, Oct. 14. The regional second game features winners from the Bloomington South and Castle sectionals. The regional final will be later on Saturday, Oct. 14.

                The regional winner advances to the Southern Semi-State on Oct. 21 at either Evansville or Lawrenceburg.

                The semi-state champion will advance to the IHSAA State Finals on either Oct. 27 at Butler University or Oct. 28 at IUPUI.

                Columbus North brings an 8-2-2 record into the final week of the regular season. The Bull Dogs visit Batesville on Tuesday (Sept. 26) and travel to Franklin on Saturday (Sept. 30) before beginning sectional play.

                Sophomore Caroline Hollenkamp and junior Tanner Johnson each have 14 points to pace the CN attack – Hollenkamp on seven goals, and Johnson on six goals plus two assists. Senior twins Kristen and Corrine Orben each has contributed nine points, Kristen on four goals plus one assist and Corrine on three goals plus three assists. Junior Christy DeDomenic and freshman Lauryn Whitley each has seven points on two goals and three assists.

                Senior goalkeeper Liz Tynan has a 0.65 goals against average with four shutouts in 862 minutes in the nets.

                Sectional admission is $6 per session or $10 for an all-session pass. Regional admission is $7 per session or $10 for a two-session pass. Semi-state admission is $10 per person. Finals admission is $10 per person per session.

                Columbus North has won 14 sectionals since the IHSAA began holding a state soccer tournament in 1994. This is the first season for a three-class tournament.
