TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Junior Liz Humphrey scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the 46th minute Saturday (Sept. 16), helping the Terre Haute North girls soccer team claim a 2-1 victory over visiting Columbus North.
The Patriots improved to 11-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 in Conference Indiana games with the decision. The Bull Dogs dropped to 7-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the league.
Terre Haute North took a 1-0 in the first half when sophomore Sasha Thompson scored on an assist from senior Lauren Schuld. Humphrey then pushed the count to 2-0 when she found the net off a feed from senior Keely Thompson.
Freshman Lauryn Whitley gave Columbus North a chance, scoring an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute. But the Bull Dogs were unable to get another shot past junior Megan Benefiel as the hosts sealed the result.
Senior Liz Tynan made eight saves in the net for Columbus North.
The Patriots took a 1-0 decision in the JV game. Delaney Steidel scored an unassisted goal for the hosts, while sophomore Kaylyn Bates made nine saves in the nets for the Bull Dogs (2-5-1).
Columbus North returns to action on Monday (Sept. 18) when its hosts Bloomington South at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex in a Conference Indiana game. The JV begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:30 p.m. The Bull Dogs also host East Central on Thursday (Sept. 20) and host Perry Meridian in a makeup game on Saturday (Sept. 23).
