Orben's goal, stingy defense lift Columbus North girls soccer to 1-0 victory over Columbus East

COLUMBUS, Ind. – Senior Kristen Orben scored in the 27th minute and the Columbus North defense posted its third shutout in five games Saturday night (Aug. 26), lifting the Bull Dogs to a 1-0 victory over rival Columbus East at Richard Wigh Soccer Complex.

Orben’s found the net off a feed from junior Tanner Johnson, and the goal stood up as the defense allowed just two shots on goal – both saved by Bull Dogs senior Liz Tynan – as CN improved to 4-0-1 for the season.

Jenny Bastian made three saves in goal for the Olympians.

In the JV game, Elena Stoughton and Abby Miller each tallied unassisted goals as Columbus East claimed a 2-0 triumph. CN sophomore keeper Kaylyn Bates made six saves for the Bull Dogs (1-3).

Columbus North returns to action on Wednesday (Aug. 30) at Franklin Central for a Conference Indiana contest. The JV begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows about 7:30 p.m.
