Bull Dogs place second in Lapel Regional to earn spot in girls golf State Finals; Kim places third individually with a 73

ANDERSON, Ind. – Senior Danbi Kim shot a 2-over-par 73 on Saturday (Sept. 23) to place third individually and lead the Columbus North girls golf team to a runner-up finish in the Lapel Regional at Edgewood Golf Course.

Freshman Nathaly Munnicha added a 76 and senior Molly Donnell carded a 77 for the Bull Dogs, who had a 306 team total to finish one stroke behind Fishers in the team chase. Junior Alexandria Munnicha contributed an 80 and senior Julia Luken posted an 82 that determined the second-place team.

Hamilton Southeastern matched CN’s team total of 306, but the Bull Dogs took second place based on Luken’s better fifth score. The Royals’ fifth player, senior Dagny Gladwell, shot an 84.

Fishers senior Morgan Lewis fired a 5-under 66 to claim medalist honors and lead the Tigers to the team crown. Senior Kennedy Brooker added a 74, while senior Anna DelPrince shot an 80. Also, senior Grace Brooks and senior Brook Wilson both carded 85s.

For Southeastern, junior Chelsea Morrow paced the effort by placing second individually with an even-par 71. Senior Haleigh Gray provided a 77, senior Nicole Dillow a 78 and sophomore Julia Eaton tallied an 80.

Fishers, Columbus North and Hamilton Southeastern earned spots as teams in the IHSAA girls golf State Finals next Friday and Saturday (Sept. 29-30) at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

Five individuals not on those teams also qualified for the state meet. They included Lapel’s Kristen Hobbs with a 74, Park Tudor’s Alissa Honigford with a 75, Cathedral’s Maddie Dittoe with a 76 and New Palestine’s Annaliese Fox and Bishop Chatard’s Maggie Schaffer with 77s.

Columbus North will be making its 25th appearance in the girls golf State Finals. The Bull Dogs have had 18 top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish in 1973 and a third-place effort last season. CN also placed third on four other occasions – in 1978, 1985, 2007 and 2008. The top individual finish by a Columbus North athlete came last year when then-senior Holly Anderson captured the state medal.

Competition on both days of the State Finals begins at 8:30 a.m. Admission to the finals is $12 per person; the ticket is good for both days.
