Franklin rallies for 3-1 victory over Columbus North in volleyball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Franklin volleyball team defeated Columbus North 3-1 on Thursday evening (Oct. 5) in Memorial Gym.

                The visiting Lady Cubs dropped the opening set, but they rallied to post an 18-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-22 decision.

                Franklin improved to 25-4 with the result. Columbus North dropped to 13-14.

                Junior Lauryn James paced the Bull Dogs’ attack with 12 kills and two blocks. Senior Katie McAninch tallied 10 kills, while sophomore Gabby Genth added eight kills.

                Junior Agustina Fainguersch provided six kills, two aces, 14 digs and two blocks. Junior Lily Meyercord produced 27 assists, 16 digs and two blocks. Junior Maddy Sebahar notched two aces and a team-best 37 digs. Also, sophomore Emma Tynan had six kills.

                The Bull Dogs swept the sub-varsity matches.

                Columbus North prevailed 25-21, 25-13 in the JV match to improve to 14-7.

                In the freshman match, the Bull Dog rookies won 25-23, 25-19 to complete their season at 5-7.

                The Columbus North varsity and JV teams play their final regular-season matches on Saturday (Oct. 7) at Terre Haute North. Both teams face the host Patriots at 11 a.m. Both CN teams follow by meeting Terre Haute South at about 1 p.m. in the Patriots’ gym. The CN varsity is 3-2 in Conference Indiana play and would tie for the league title with two victories. Terre Haute North enters at 4-2 in CI matches, and Terre Haute South is 0-6.
