Girls Varsity Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Columbus North volleyball team went 1-3 on Saturday (Sept. 23) to finish sixth in the Muncie Central Invitational.
The Bull Dogs went 1-2 in their pool. They defeated host Muncie Central (25-20, 25-20) in their opener. CN then lost to Elkhart Memorial (21-25, 25-27) and Wapahani (20-25, 12-25) to complete pool play.
In the match for fifth place, Mishawaka Marian defeated the Bull Dogs 25-14, 25-17.
CN’s season record moved to 12-11 after these results.
For the day, junior Agustina Fainguersch posted 21 kills and 30 digs for the Bull Dogs. Senior Katie McAninch added 11 kills, while sophomore Emma Tynan tallied 11 kills and five service aces.
Junior Lily Meyercord provided four aces, 52 assists, five blocks and 22 digs, while junior Maddy Sebahar contributed two aces and 45 digs. Junior Lauryn James chipped in eight blocks, and sophomore Gabby Genth had five blocks.
Yorktown was the champion of the eight-team event, beating Wapahani 25-14, 25-27, 15-12 in the title match. The Tigers improved to 26-1 for the season after going 4-0 for the day, including pool-play wins over McCutcheon (25-16, 25-18), Mishawaka Marian (25-12, 25-15) and Lawrence North (25-20, 20-25, 15-5).
McCutcheon and Elkhart Memorial played for third place, and Lawrence North and Muncie Central met for seventh place.
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 26) when it visits Bedford North Lawrence. The JV match begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows at about 7 p.m. The Bull Dogs travel to Columbus East on Thursday (Sept. 28). CN will play freshman, JV and varsity matches against the Olympians.
