“We came out and struggled to match Brownstown's intensity level,” Columbus North coach Caitlin Greiner said. “Brownstown is a very scrappy team defensively, and we were unable to step up and terminate the ball. They put pressure on us serving, and we struggled to get the ball to the net to run an effective offense. We will need to really to step up our intensity and will to fight through tough matches if we are going to compete this weekend (in the Ultra Ankle Challenge in New Albany).
The Braves swept both sub-varsity matches. They took a 25-23, 16-25, 15-10 decision at the JV level as the Bull Dogs dropped to 9-4. The visitors prevailed 25-8, 25-15 in the freshman match as CN fell to 3-6.
The Columbus North varsity returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 16) in the Ultra Ankle Challenge. CN faces Jasper at 10 a.m., New Albany at 11 a.m. and Jeffersonville at 2 p.m. The Bull Dogs also will face Floyd Central, Castle, Silver Creek or Brownstown Central in a placement-round match at either 3 p.m. or 4 p.m.
The Bull Dogs’ JV is back in action Saturday in the Roncalli Invitation. Matches begin there at 9 a.m.
The CN freshman were to play in the Brown County Invitational on Saturday, but that event has been canceled.
