Girls Varsity Volleyball
NORTH VERNON, Ind. – Junior Agustina Fainguersch pounded down 18 kills and sophomore Gabby Genth added 11 kills Saturday (Sept. 9), keying the Columbus North volleyball team to a 3-0 record and the championship of the Jennings County Invitational.
The Bull Dogs produced a trio of straight-set triumphs to improve to 9-3 for the season, beating Scottsburg (25-21, 25-17), Ben Davis (25-10, 25-10) and Jennings County (25-21, 25-18) in the four-team round-robin competition.
Senior Katie McAninch, junior Lauryn James and sophomore Emma Tynan each added 10 kills over the three matches, while junior Lily Meyercord provided eight kills, 34 assists, five service aces, three blocks and 10 digs.
Tynan and junior Maddy Sebahar chipped in four aces apiece, while Sebahar tallied a team-best 26 digs. Fainguerch produced 12 digs, while Tynan and sophomore Carley Finke each had 11 digs.
James also notched four blocks.
“We did a nice job of maintaining our intensity and focus throughout all three matches,” Columbus North coach Caitlin Greiner said. “We were able to get a lot of different players involved in our offense. We worked hard all week to start of quick and with a sense of urgency. This definitely carried over to these matches.”
The Bull Dogs also swept the same three opponents in JV division of the event. The JV squad improved to 9-2 for the season with victories over Scottsburg (25-11, 25-7), Ben Davis (25-5, 25-16) and Jennings County (25-11, 25-21).
Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 12) when it visits Franklin Central for a Conference Indiana encounter. JV and freshman matches begin at 6 p.m., and the varsity match follows the JV at about 7 p.m. CN follows by hosting Brownstown Central on Thursday (Sept. 14).
