Girls Varsity Volleyball
Three seniors, eight juniors and five sophomores are listed as varsity players for Columbus North volleyball, which returns three varsity regulars from a 16-14 season in 2016.
“We’re young,” CN coach Caitlin Greiner told The Republic. “We lost a solid five seniors last year, but we had such a talented freshman class. We have a lot of experienced players still coming back.”
Junior Agustina Fainguersch is the top returning front-row player, while junior Maddy Sebahar is the top returning back-row player. She moves from defensive specialist to libero. Junior Lily Meyercord, a backup setter last season, likely will move into the starting role.
Senior Katie McAninch plus sophomores Emma Tynan and Gabby Genth played some varsity last season. All three look to step into larger roles this season. Junior Lauryn James also could provide a spark as a middle hitter. She transferred in from Columbus East and is eligible now.
Others vying for time on court include seniors Sidney Roese and Hannah Worton, junior Madi Beck and Sophie McKinney and sophomore Carley Finke.
“We always have lofty goals and strive for excellence,” Greiner told the newspaper. “We have a bunch of really hard-working girls.”
