Columbus North boys basketball falls to Pike, Chesterton in Noblesville Invitational

                NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Senior Austin Peterson scored 14 points to pace three players in double figures Wednesday evening (Dec. 27), leading the Chesterton boys basketball team to a 63-44 victory over Columbus North in a consolation semifinal of the Noblesville Invitational.

                Senior Ky Palombizio added 13 points and sophomore Jake Wadding had 11 points for the Trojans, who improved to 8-1 for the season after dropping their first-round game to undefeated Warren Central.

                Senior Jaylen Flemmons netted team highs of 11 points and five rebounds for the Bull Dogs, who fell to 4-5 after dropping their first-round game to Pike. Senior Matt Boldrey chipped in eight points, and junior Patrick McKinley had seven points against Chesterton.

                Columbus North took a 14-12 edge at the first stop, but the Trojans countered with a 30-11 run over the middle two quarters for a 42-25 lead at the third stop. Chesterton pushed the count to 55-32 in the fourth quarter before closing out the 19-point decision.

                Earlier Wednesday, senior Steve Miller dropped in 21 point on 10-of-11 shooting to propel Pike to a 57-40 first-round triumph over the Bull Dogs. Junior Ahmoni Jones chipped in 10 points for the Red Devils, while senior Hunter White, senior Ditwan Gary and senior Darian Porch each provided six points.

                Senior Bailey Hester scored a team-high 12 points for Columbus North. Flemmons contributed 11 points and a team-best five rebounds, while senior Trey Vincent tallied seven points.

                Pike jumped to a 27-14 lead at intermission, but CN used a good third quarter to trail 42-31 at the third stop. The Bull Dogs tried to rally in the final period, but the Red Devils ultimately stretched the margin to 17 at the end.

                In other first-round games, Broad Ripple beat Crown Point 58-46, Noblesville routed Indianapolis Lighthouse-East 96-42 and Warren Central whipped Chesterton 69-47. In the other consolation semifinal, Crown Point defeated Indianapolis Lighthouse-East 73-33.

                In games Friday (Dec. 28), Broad Ripple (6-2) will face Noblesville (6-3) at 10 a.m. and Warren Central (6-0) will meet Pike (3-4) at noon in championship semifinals.

                Also, Columbus North (4-5) plays Indianapolis Lighthouse-East (2-12) at 2 p.m. in the seventh-place game, and Crown Point (4-4) squares off with Chesterton (8-1) at 4 p.m. in the fifth-place game. The semifinal losers will meet at 6 p.m. for third place, and the semifinal winners will play for the tournament championship at 8 p.m.
