Bedford North Lawrence outscores Columbus North 50-45 in boys basketball scrimmage

                BEDFORD, Ind. – Senior Jaylen Flemmons scored 14 points Thursday evening (Nov. 16) as the Columbus North girls basketball team competed at Bedford North Lawrence in a scrimmage played in the Stars’ gym.

                Although the scoreboard was reset to 0-0 to start each period, host BNL amassed a 50-45 edge when the four varsity quarters were totaled. Freshman Blake Barker chipped in nine points on three 3-pointers, while seniors Bailey Hester and Ross Gill each contributed eight points.

                Junior Drew Shoufler scored 12 points to pace the Stars. Senior McCall Ray and sophomore Brayton Bailey each added nine points, and senior Isaiah Stockman netted six points.

                The Bull Dogs prevailed in the second and fourth quarters.

                Flemmons scored eight points on four field goals while Barker and Hester each sank two 3-pointers in the second quarter when CN outscored the hosts 23-15. Senior Drew Wilson scored four points and classmate Ross Gill netted three points in the fourth quarter when the Bull Dogs edged the Stars 11-9.

                The teams also played one quarter with only JV players, BNL taking a 22-13 edge in the period. Junior Blake King scored five points and junior Riley Ables had four points to lead the Bull Dogs. Sophomore Cale Bunch netted six points and junior Brandon Flinn scored four points for the Stars.

                Columbus North opens its season on Tuesday (Nov. 21) when it hosts Heritage Christian in a tripleheader in Memorial Gym. The freshman game begins at 5 p.m. The JV game follows the freshmen at about 6 p.m. The varsity will follow the JV at about 7:30 p.m.

                The game will be a “Coaches vs. Cancer” game where special, custom T-shirts and holiday pumpkin pies will be sold to raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society. Shirts and pies are $12 for one, or any combination of two for $20 (two shirts, two pies or one of each).
