Five Columbus North seniors finalize college plans in ceremony

Five Columbus North High School seniors took part in a college-bound student-athlete ceremony on Thursday (April 14) to finalize their commitments for college athletics and academics.
Two women's track & field athletes, two women's basketball players and a football player participated in the ceremony in the Columbus North cafeteria.
The students who were a part of the program were pole vaulter Katrina May (Purdue), distance runner Anna Horak (DePauw), basketball players Paige Littrell (DePauw) and Amy Weisner (Earlham), and football player Mitchell Kelley (Rose-Hulman).
These five athletes give CNHS a total of 15 athletes in the Class of 2016 who have announced plans to pursue college athletics. Earlier, 10 athletes took part in signing ceremonies in November or February.
More information about the athletes who took part in Thursday's ceremony and their respective college choices follows:
        >> Anna Horak, women's track/cross country, DePauw: Posted a season-best time of 21 minutes, 36.1 seconds for 5,000 meters in the FlashRock Invitational last fall. She joins a Tigers' cross country program that finished third in the North Coast Athletic Conference last fall and placed seventh in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional.
        >> Mitchell Kelley, football, Rose-Hulman: The 5-11, 185-pound safety contributed a team-high 103 tackles, including five tackles for loss, one sack and matching a school record with four fumble recoveries as CN compiled a 6-4 record last fall. He also produced two interceptions, two hurries, four passes broken up and one forced fumble. He joins a Fightin' Engineers program that went 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2015.
        >> Paige Littrell, women's basketball, DePauw: The 5-10 guard averaged 8.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists for a team that went 27-2 and was the Class 4A state runner-up as a senior. She set a school record with 156 career 3-point field goals and was the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award winner. She joins a DePauw program that went 22-7 overall and 13-3 in the NCAC in 2015-16.
        >> Katrina May, women's track & field, Purdue: Posted a best of 12 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault to finish second in the Hoosier State Relays indoor state track meet last month. That came after she helped the CN gymnastics team to the 2016 state championship earlier in March by tying for second in the individual all-around competition. May also won the IHSAA Mental Attitude Award for gymnastics. She joins a Boilermakers' program that placed second in the 2016 Big Ten indoor meet and finished sixth in the 2015 Big Ten outdoor meet.
        >> Amy Weisner, women's basketball, Earlham: The 5-7 guard helped the Bull Dogs to a 27-2 record and Class 4A state runner-up finish in the recently completed season in a backup role. Weisner joins a Quakers' program that went 5-20 overall and 3-15 in the HCAC in 2015-16.
