Boys All Levels Tennis
Junior Kevin Lin was honored as MVP of the Columbus North boys’ tennis team as the squad's season-ending gathering on Thursday (Nov. 2).
Lin compiled a 14-11 record at No. 1 singles en route to earning first-team all-District 8 and honorable mention all-state accolades. His efforts helped the Bull Dogs to a 17-5 dual match record a squad that was a sectional champion and regional runner-up. Lin was selected the team MVP for the second consecutive season.
Senior Isaac Jackson was named winner of the team’ Bull Dog and Sportsmanship awards. Jackson teamed with Ben Mathew at No. 1 doubles, posting a 20-8 record while earning all-district and second-team all-state laurels.
Sophomore Joey Zhao, 16-9 at No. 2 singles, also was voted all-district and honorable mention all-state.
In addition, Mathew, senior Akshaya Sabapathy and senior Chris Ruble were recognized as honorable mentioned academic all-state. Sabapathy finished 19-6 at No. 3 singles, while Ruble was 20-5 while teamed with sophomore Adam Saad at No. 2 doubles. Also, the Columbus North team was honored as an Academic All-State team.
Ruble was the team’s most improved player. Lin, Sabapathy, senior Gabe Kirsch and sophomore Will King and were recognized with the Bull Dog Pride honors for toughness as players. Also, Jackson, Kirsch, sophomore Tyler Allen and freshman Bennett Carson were cited as Bull Dog Support players.
Lin and Jackson were cited as team captains, and they were among eight athletes who received varsity letters. Other lettermen were seniors Adhil Akhar, Ben Mathew, Chris Ruble and Akshaya Sabapathy; and sophomores Adam Saad and Joey Zhao.
Those recognized as JV team members were seniors Gabe Kirsch and Hussain Saifuddin; juniors Dallin Anderson, Blake King and Ben Larson; sophomores Tyler Allen, David Gutierrez, Bhavey Jain, Will King, Atharva Kute, Eamon Ma and Tony Tang; and freshmen Aditya Agrawal, Luke Akhalaya, Bennett Carson, Tirth Desai, Mehul Dhillon, Luke Enneking, Andres Garcia, Kyle Johnson, Shawn Joseph, Joseph Kloepfer and Jacob Shinkle.
