Three Columbus North football players have been selected to the all-Region 10 squad by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.
Seniors Jaylen Flemmons, Brigham Kleinhenz and Damon Hunter Jr. each was chosen to the honor unit as picked by a group of coaches representing 42 schools that compete in football in the region. Their selection makes them candidates for the 2018 Indiana North-South All-Star Classic that will be played in July.
The 6-3, 200-pound Flemmons was a big-play receiver, hauling in 55 passes 995 yards and 13 TDs, the yardage figure setting a school season record and the reception total being the second best for a season. The 55 catches also pushed his career total to 93 receptions, a career school record.
Kleinhenz, a 6-0, 190-pound linebacker, recorded 108 solo tackles, 46 assists, 16 tackles for loss, three sacks, five passes broken up and one blocked punt. The solo count was second best for a single season and the TFL total tied for second best in a CN season. His 152 career solos is third and his career 20 TFLs tied for fifth in the program’s all-time list.
The 5-11, 165-pound Hunter excelled as a safety. He netted 59 solos, 26 assists, seven TFLs, two interceptions and four passes broken up.
Earlier, Flemmons and Kleinhenz were recognized as first-team all-Conference Indiana selections. Hunter was cited as an honorable mention all-CI choice. Flemmons and Kleinhenz also were voted first-team Class 6A All-State by the IFCA.
Selections for the North-South All-Star game will be announced in early March.
