Columbus North junior Mitchell Burton has been chosen as one of the Prime Time 25 football players for the upcoming 2016 football season by Indiana Football Digest.
His selection was announced Sunday (March 20) at the 2016 Griddy Awards program held at the Indianapolis Colts Complex.
Burton, a 6-2, 185-pound running back, ran for 1,757 yards and 22 touchdowns to pace the Bull Dogs’ offense in a 6-4 season last fall. The yardage total was second in CNHS history, behind only the 1,782 yards by Alex Turner in 2006, and Burton’s TD total tied a school record set by Mike Andress in 1973.
Burton had TD runs of 91 yards (vs. Franklin) and 90 yards (vs. Perry Meridian) to have two carries in the top five in school annals, and his career rushing total of 2,294 yards places him fifth in CN history with one season to go. The career rushing record is 4,233 yards by Turner in 2005-2007.
The IFD Prime Time 25 are considered the best seniors-to-be for the coming season, and they will appear on the cover of the 2016 Indiana Football Digest magazine. The magazine will be available beginning in July.
