Columbus North senior Mitchell Kelley has been selected to the South team for the 2016 Community Chrysler Indiana North-South All-Star Football Classic.
The game will be played on July 15 at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
The event -- staged by the Indiana Football Coaches Association -- features top graduating senior football players from across Indiana, a meet and greet with Indianapolis Colts players and cheerleaders, games for children, prizes and halftime festivities. Proceeds from the game benefit Camp Riley and the Indiana Football Hall of Fame.
This is the 50th season for the event, which began in 1967.
Kelley, a 5-11, 185-pound safety, was the leading defensive player last season for the Bull Dogs. He contributed a team-high 103 tackles, including five tackles for loss, one sack and matching a school record with four fumble recoveries as CN compiled a 6-4 record. He also produced two interceptions, two hurries, four passes broken up and one forced fumble.
Earlier, Kelley was named first-team all-Conference Indiana, IFCA all-Region 10, first-team IFCA Class 6A All-State and honorable mention Associated Press Class 6A All-State.
Kelley becomes the 26th Columbus North player selected for the North-South All-Star game. His selection marks the fifth year in a row for a Bull Dogs' player to be picked. Quarterback Kyle Kamman played in the 2012 All-Star game, linebacker Shaquille Ash played in the 2013 game, lineman Tyson Clark was chosen for the 2014 game but was unable to play, and lineman Ezra Followell played in the 2015 All-Star game.
The South leads the series 27-22.
