Girls Varsity Basketball
The Columbus North girls basketball team will open postseason play in the semifinal round of the East Central Sectional at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, according to pairings announced Sunday (Jan. 21) by the Indiana High School Athletic Association.
The Bull Dogs (16-5) drew a first-round bye and will face the winner of the game on Tuesday, Jan. 30 between Shelbyville (1-19) and Columbus East (13-7). They play at 6 p.m.
The other first-round game pits Bloomington South (11-10) against host East Central (13-8). That winner will advance to the second semifinal against Bloomington North (4-16).
The semifinal winners will play for the sectional championship at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3.
Sectional admission is $6 per session or $10 for an all-session ticket.
The sectional winner will advance to the Columbus North Regional on Feb. 10. Winners from East Central and Seymour will play in the first game, followed by winners from Evansville and Franklin Central. The regional final will be later on Feb. 10.
The regional champion qualifies for the semi-state, which will be played on Feb. 17 at either Jasper or Jeffersonville. The site and time of the semi-state will be announced on Feb. 11.
The semi-state winner advances to the IHSAA girls basketball State Finals on Feb. 24 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
