Nolan scores 19 points, keys Zionsville to 48-30 victory over Columbus North in girls basketball

                ZIONSVILLE, Ind. – Junior Maddie Nolan scored 14 of her game-high 19 points in the second half Wednesday evening (Jan. 17), helping the Zionsville girls basketball team overcome an early deficit and beat Columbus North 48-30.

                Junior Delaney Richason added eight points while senior Kaylee Riggins and freshman Katey Richason each tallied five points for the Eagles, who improved to 15-4. Junior Sarah Howell and junior Megan Sheridan each chipped in four points for the winners.

                Senior Jenna Borger scored a team-high 16 points for the Bull Dogs (15-5). Sophomore Tessa Lomax scored five points, while seniors Liz Tynan and Kenzie Patberg each netted three points.

                Borger scored 13 points in the first quarter as Columbus North took a 15-6 lead. But Riggins countered with five points and Nolan had three points as the hosts rallied for an 18-16 edge at intermission.

                The Bull Dogs recovered to lead early in the third quarter, but Zionsville used six points from Nolan and four from Delaney Richason for a 33-27 advantage at the third stop. Nolan then scored eight points over the final eight minutes as the Eagles pulled away for the final.

                Columbus North won both sub-varsity games.

                At the JV level, freshman Madison White scored 12 points while classmates Alexa McKinley and Hannah Bramlett each contributed six points as the Bull Dogs prevailed 41-27. Sophomores Sierra Norman and Brooke Bruin each added five points, and freshman Kanon Matsuno had four points for CN (16-1). Junior Chloe Wilson scored 12 points for the Eagles.

                In the freshman game, Taylor Mathers tossed in nine points to lead Columbus North to a 28-13 victory. Laney Moore tallied six points, and Caroline West had four points for the Bull Dogs (10-2). Mikayla Owens topped Zionsville with five points.

                The Columbus North varsity and JV return to action on Friday (Jan. 19) when they visit Bloomington North in a Conference Indiana contest. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity follows at 7:30 p.m.

                The Bull Dog freshmen are back on the court at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 20) when they host the Perry Meridian “C” Team in the Auxiliary Gym. That game is part of a quadruple-header with the Columbus North boys against the Falcons – boys’ JV and freshmen at noon, and the boys’ varsity at 1:30 p.m. in Memorial Gym.
