Columbus North defeats Southport 57-44 in girls basketball

                INDIANAPOLIS – Four players scored in double figures Tuesday evening (Nov. 14) to lift the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 57-44 victory at Southport in a Conference Indiana encounter.

                Senior Jenna Borger scored 13 points on three 3-pointers and 4-of-4 free throws to lead the Bull Dogs, who improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league games. Sophomore Tessa Lomax contributed 12 points, while senior Kenzie Patberg and sophomore Chelsi Giesige each provided 10 points.

                In addition, sophomore Annie Anderson chipped in six points, junior Nadia Lomax tallied four points and senior Liz Tynan had two points for the visitors.

                Junior Ashley Raisor paced Southport (0-5, 0-1) with 11 points. Sophomore Lexie Green added nine points, while seniors Tiana Wright and Savannah Edington each scored eight points.

                Borger scored five points and Anderson netted four points as Columbus North took a 15-4 lead in the first quarter. Tessa Lomax scored four points and Borger and Kenzie Patberg three each as the Bull Dogs took a 27-16 edge at intermission.

                Wright and Green each scored six points as the Cardinals cut their deficit to 39-36 late in the third quarter. But Tessa Lomax scored on a put-back at the third-period buzzer, and Borger opened the final quarter with a 3-pointer as CN pushed its lead back out to prevail.

                Columbus North also won both sub-varsity games.

                Sophomore Sierra Norman and freshman Alexa McKinley each scored 11 points while freshman Hannah Bramlett tallied 10 points as the Bull Dogs took a 49-43 decision in the JV game. Norman scored nine points in the third quarter as CN pushed a seven-point halftime edge to 42-26 entering the final period. Sophomore Brynna Reynolds led Southport with 19 points.

                In the third-level game, Aden Voss scored 11 points and Taylor Mathers chipped in nine points as the Columbus North freshmen topped the Cardinals’ C Team 48-21. Haylee Acton contributed eight points, and Laney Moore and Emily Herndon each had six points for the Bull Dogs. Junior Markayla Scott scored 10 points for Southport.

                Columbus North returns to action on Friday (Nov. 17) when it visits Franklin Central in another Conference Indiana encounter. JV and freshman games begin at 6 p.m. The varsity follows the JV at about 7:30 p.m.
