Columbus North uses balanced effort to beat New Albany 63-52 in girls basketball opener

                NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Three players scored in double figures on Tuesday evening (Nov. 7), leading the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 63-52 season-opening victory at New Albany.

                Sophomore Tessa Lomax scored a game-high 15 points to pace the Bull Dogs. Senior Kenzie Patberg chipped in 13 points, while junior Nadia Lomax contributed 10 points.

                Also, senior Jenna Borger tallied nine points, sophomore Annie Anderson scored six points and senior Liz Tynan and sophomore Chelsi Giesige each netted five points.

                Senior Kelsy Taylor led host New Albany (1-1) with 13 points. Senior Julyen Condra and junior Ally Willis scored 11 points apiece, and senior Savanna Pinkston had nine points.

                Giesige hit a 3-pointer at the first-quarter buzzer to give Columbus North a 12-11 edge. Then Patberg scored six points and Borger and Tynan five each in the second quarter as the visitors took a 32-20 lead at intermission.

                Nadia Lomax scored eight points and Tessa Lomax had four in the third quarter as CN pushed its advantage to 48-33 at the third stop. Kenzie Patberg scored seven points and Tessa Lomax four more in the final period as Columbus North held off a New Albany rally.

                In the JV game, sophomore Riley Eder scored 12 points and freshman Kanon Matsuno tallied 10 points as Columbus North prevailed 60-12. Freshmen Alexa McKinley, Hannah Bramlett and Madison White each added six points, while sophomore Sierra Norman, sophomore Kaylyn Bates and freshman Caroline West had five points apiece. Sophomore Mya Jackson led New Albany with five points.

                Columbus North returns to action on Friday (Nov. 10) when it hosts Martinsville. The JV game will be at 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow at about 7:30 p.m. The game will be Comets Night, where players in the Comets’ youth program will be recognized at halftime of the varsity game.
