Columbus North outscores Brownstown Central 47-34 in girls basketball scrimmage

                BROWNSTOWN, Ind. – Junior Nadia Lomax scored 14 points Tuesday evening (Oct. 31) as the Columbus North girls basketball team outscored Brownstown Central in a scrimmage played in the Braves’ gym.

                Although the scoreboard was reset to 0-0 to start each period, sophomore Tessa Lomax chipped in nine points and senior Kenzie Patberg netted seven points as the Bull Dogs amassed a 47-34 edge when the four varsity quarters were totaled. Senior Jenna Borger and sophomore Annie Anderson scored four points apiece for CN.

                Sophomore Ashley Schroer led Brownstown with nine points. Junior Payton Farmer, sophomore Halle Hehman and senior Madison Klinge each scored six points for the Braves.

                Nadia Lomax and Borger each scored four points and senior Liz Tynan scored three points as the Bull Dogs posted a 17-6 edge in the first of four 12-minute running-clock quarters where specific defensive rules applied to each period. The first quarter had teams play half-court man-to-man defense.

                Tessa Lomax tallied five points in the second quarter, where CN outscored the hosts 11-5 and both teams played half-court zone defense. Nadia Lomax, Kenzie Patberg and freshman Alexa McKinley each had two points in the period.

                Nadia Lomax scored six points, while Tessa Lomax and Anderson had two points in the third quarter, where both teams pressed and the Braves took a 14-10 decision.

                Kenzie Patberg scored five points, and Nadia Lomax and senior Kelsey Patberg two apiece in the final quarter – one in which any defense was allowed – where the teams tied 9-9.

                The teams also played one quarter with only JV players, the Bull Dogs winning that quarter 11-4. Sophomore Sierra Norman scored five points in that period. McKinley, freshman Madison White and freshman Hannah Bramlett each added two points for CN. Sophomore Zoe Fountain and junior Shelby Reynolds had two points each for the Braves.

                Columbus North opens its season on Tuesday (Nov. 7) when it visits New Albany in a doubleheader. The JV game begins at 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow at about 7:30 p.m. There will be no freshman game.
