CN's Howard-Bass scores eight points in victory, King tallies 14 points in loss in 'Hoosiers' Reunion All-Star Classic

                KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. – Maliah Howard-Bass of Columbus North scored eight points Friday evening (June 2), helping the Terhune Tigers girls’ team to an 87-75 victory over the Hickory Huskers in the “Hoosiers” Reunion All-Star Classic in the Hoosier Gym.

                In the boys’ game, CN’s Alex King tallied 14 points but his Terhune squad fell 152-130 to Hickory.

                Kayla Casteel of Plainfield scored a team-high 13 points as the Terhune girls used balance to post its triumph. She was her team’s only player in double figures, but 11 other players scored four or more points in the doubleheader that featured graduating high school seniors that benefits the Hoosier Gym facility.

                Macee Williams of Fountain Central contributed nine points, while Howard-Bass, Zion Sanders of Evansville Central and Rachel McLimore of Zionsville each scored eight points. Courtney Raymer of Triton Central chipped in seven points, and Bre Lloyd of Hamilton Southeastern, Destiny Perkins of Lawrence North, Paige Barrett of Scottsburg, Val Clark of Center Grove and Reagan McMurray of New Palestine tallied six points apiece.

                Terhune used a 31-16 third quarter advantage to break open what had been a two-point game at halftime. Columbus North girls' coach Pat McKee was a co-coach with Triton Central's Bryan Graham for the Terhune girls.

                Indiana Miss Basketball Karissa McLaughlin of Homestead poured in 27 points for Hickory, including 17 of her game-high total in the fourth quarter as the Huskers tried to rally from a deficit that reached 23 points. Madison Wise of Greenfield-Central and Ajanae Thomas of North Central each provided eight points. Brooke James of Princeton scored seven points.

                Hickory cut its deficit to 10 late in the game, but Howard-Bass converted a late bucket to account for the margin.

                Jalen Adaway of Logansport scored 27 points, Michael Ertel of Mt. Vernon (Fortville) netted 23 points and Matt Jennings of Logansport had 22 points to lead the Hickory boys to their high-scoring decision. Cooper Neese of Cloverdale added 19 points, while David Froedge of New Castle tallied 14 points and Courvoisier McCauley of Indianapolis Manual had 12 points in an outburst where Hickory totaled 21 3-point goals as a team.

                Nike Sibande of Indianapolis Attucks dropped in  team-best 26 points for the Terhune boys. He was supported by 16 points from Park Tudor’s Kobe Webster, 14 from King, 13 from Warren Central’s Mack Smith, 12 from Carroll’s Jacob Redding, 11 from Terre Haute South’s Jaylen Minnett and 10 from Connersville’s Grant Smith.

                Hickory raced to a 43-32 lead in the 10-minute opening quarter and led 73-55 at intermission. Terhune rallied to trail by just nine points early in the fourth quarter, but then Hickory ultimately put together a 46-38 edge over the final 10 minutes for its commanding victory.
