Bull Dogs outlast Terre Haute South 53-45 in girls basketball

                COLUMBUS, Ind. – Junior Nadia Lomax scored 11 points to lead three players in double figures Saturday (Dec. 2), leading the Columbus North girls basketball team to a 53-45 victory over Terre Haute South in Memorial Gym.

                Sophomore Annie Anderson contributed 10 points for the Bull Dogs, who improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in Conference Indiana. Senior Kenzie Patberg provided eight points, while senior Jenna Borger and sophomore Sierra Norman netted six points apiece for CN.

                Senior Taylor Pepperworth scored 16 of her game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter for the Braves (4-4, 0-1). Freshman Zayda Hatfield added eight points and junior Lauren England had six points.

                Norman scored six points while Anderson scored four points as Columbus North used a 17-8 third-quarter surge to break open what had been a 17-13 lead at the half. The Bull Dogs pushed their advantage to as many as 19 points early in the fourth quarter before Pepperworth and the Braves rallied to within six in the final minute.

                Lomax sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds to account for the final margin.

                In the JV game, freshman Kanon Matsuno and sophomore Kaylyn Bates each scored 12 points as Columbus North prevailed 64-31. Sophomore Sierra Norman chipped in 11 points, while freshmen Madison White and Alexa McKinley each netted eight points for the Bull Dogs (6-0). Freshmen Paityn Shipley and Natalie Morris each scored eight points for the Braves.

                There was no freshman game against Terre Haute South.

                Columbus North returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 5) when it visits Greenwood for a triple-header. JV and freshman games are at 6 p.m. The varsity follows the JV at about 7:30 p.m.
